The HKU Graduate School participated in a Hong Kong Joint University Delegation to Bangkok, Thailand, from April 20 to 22. Represented by Professor Dong-Yan Jin, Senior Associate Dean of the Graduate School, HKU joined forces with fellow institutions to showcase Hong Kong as a premier hub for research postgraduate education and to deepen academic ties with leading Thai universities.

The delegation brought together representatives from six Hong Kong universities: The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The Education University of Hong Kong. This collective effort showcased the diverse and robust research ecosystem of Hong Kong across multiple disciplines.

Over the three-day visit, the delegation met with senior leadership at Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, two of Thailand’s foremost institutions. Discussions focused on promoting Hong Kong universities as attractive destinations for research postgraduate study, particularly in areas where both regions share complementary strengths.

The visit provided a valuable platform to explore collaborative opportunities for:

  • Joint supervision and co-training of research postgraduate students
  • Collaborative research projects, and thematic networks
  • Exchange programmes, mobility schemes, and short-term research attachments

The delegation also helped to raise awareness of scholarship opportunities, structured doctoral training, and the robust research environment available at HKU and other Hong Kong institutions.

The outreach in Bangkok underscored the Graduate School’s commitment to building a diverse and globally connected research community. By strengthening institution-level engagement in postgraduate education, research training, and international collaboration, HKU aims to create more pathways for talented students in Thailand to pursue advanced studies in Hong Kong, while fostering long-term partnerships that support excellence in research across the region.
