HKU Excels at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition
HKU achieved remarkable success at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, securing a total of 19 awards: the prestigious Outstanding Organisation Award, one Grand Prize, two First Prizes, two Second Prizes, six Third Prizes, and seven Merit Prizes.
This year, 18 HKU research postgraduate students received special recognition for their outstanding performances. Notably, PhD candidates Zitong Shao, Jiahui Deng and Yinjie Zhou from the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy won the Grand Prize with their project titled “Nose-to-Brain NanoPowder Nasal Spray for Rapid Ischemic Stroke Rescue.” Additionally, PhD candidates Alex To and Chloe Kan from the School of Biomedical Sciences and their team received First Prize for their project, “Next Generation Precision Medicine Platform Integrating AI Drug Discovery and Ex Vivo Organoid Validation.”
HKU student teams showcased a diverse array of groundbreaking innovations, from biomedical breakthroughs and AI-enabled precision medicine to sustainable construction engineering and intelligent healthcare technologies. Their exceptional quality and diversity earned HKU the distinguished Outstanding Organisation Award among all participating institutions.

This year’s competition invited 42 leading academics, professors, and experts from Hong Kong’s major universities, along with representatives from the business and venture capital sectors, to form a distinguished judging panel. The panel rated the most significant and outstanding innovative solutions with sustainable social impact.
Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, the Competition is an annual flagship event that brings together university students to showcase their innovative projects. Winning teams will represent the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in major national competitions, including the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition and the “Challenge Cup” series, as well as international innovation exhibitions in Singapore, Indonesia and Seoul.
