A Vision of Unity: Meet the 33rd HKU Postgraduate Student Association Executive Committee

PGSA

In July, the HKU Postgraduate Student Association (PGSA) transitioned to a new session by establishing the 33rd Executive Committee. Led by President Wu Yilan (Visspa), a second-year PhD student in the School of Nursing, the new committee is ready to foster a vibrant and supportive community for all postgraduates.

Founded in 1993, the PGSA stands as the oldest independent postgraduate student organisation at HKU, serving as a dedicated voice and support system for postgraduates. The association is guided by its long-standing motto, ‘致知’, meaning the pursuit of knowledge. This philosophy is put into practice through the principles of ‘格物致知’ , investigating things to extend knowledge, and ‘知行合一’ , ensuring the unity of knowledge and action.

This year's vision is powerfully captured in the theme: ‘青山同雲雨 – One Community: Pioneering Growth, Sustainability & Achievement’. This proverb, which states, “Though we are separate mountains, we share the same clouds and rain”, reflects the diverse backgrounds of HKU’s student body, united by a shared journey and experiences. The PGSA promises to cultivate a single, united community where all students feel they belong. The executive committee, consisting of a seven-member praesidium that manages 12 departments and eight clubs, is already hard at work. Even before the semester began, the team welcomed nearly 700 new students at offline orientation sessions across six cities in China: Beijing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

This package serves as a tangible welcome to the HKU family. Distribution starts on August 29th and continues on September 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th. All students are encouraged to stop by, register as a PGSA member, and pick up their gift.
