PhD Candidate Honoured with 2024 HKAUW Kunpeng Scholarship

Vinci Ying Jia Cheung, a PhD candidate from the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Social Sciences, has been awarded the 2024 HKAUW Kunpeng Postgraduate Scholarship, granted by the Hong Kong Association of University Women (HKAUW).

The prestigious scholarship recognises female postgraduate students who conduct high-quality original research that significantly contributes to society and the body of knowledge. This scholarship, awarded through a rigorous selection process, honours candidates who excel academically while demonstrating strong leadership skills, a collaborative spirit, commitment to community service, and notable achievements in their fields.

The HKAUW 2024-2025 Annual Business Meeting and Scholarship Presentation Ceremony took place at City University of Hong Kong on March 29, 2025. Vinci reflected on the event, saying, “It was an unforgettable experience to connect with so many brilliant and inspiring ladies who are making significant strides in their fields and demonstrating exceptional dedication to their work.” 

As a PhD candidate focusing on smart urbanism and geography, Vinci recognises the importance of community engagement and the role of people in shaping the evolution of cities and fostering a more equitable society. “Hearing how diverse individuals approach this shared goal of creating a better and more sustainable future was particularly inspiring,” Vinci said. “The insights and encouragement I gained from this ceremony will undoubtedly influence my work and strengthen my commitment to making a meaningful impact in urban development.

“This scholarship is not just an acknowledgement of achievements; it also serves as a powerful reminder of the positive changes that research and education can foster,” Vinci shared. “I am incredibly grateful to the HKAUW for their extraordinary dedication to promoting higher education among women and to my supervisors, professors, mentors, and friends who have supported me along this journey.”
