HKU IDS PhD Candidate Honoured as a Prestigious ‘Qingyuan Scholar' by GAITC 2025
Xubin Ren—a second-year PhD candidate of the HKU Institute of Data Science (IDS), supervised by Professor Chao Huang—is honoured as one of the ‘Qingyuan Scholars「清源學者」’ by GAITC 2025.
The inaugural recipients of this honour were reviewed and shortlisted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI中國人工智能大會) at the 2025 Global Artificial Intelligence Technology Conference (GAITC), which was held in Hangzhou on June 6-8, 2025. The Qingyuan Scholars are selected to recognise young talents across the globe to support interdisciplinary discoveries of AI and industrial developments. GAITC 2025 delved into critical issues shaping AI’s sustainable development, including AI ethics and governance, data privacy, algorithmic bias, intellectual property, and talent cultivation, fostering a collaborative and responsible AI innovation ecosystem.
Xubin was among the five awardees titled Qingyuan Scholar「清源學者」, and he was the only recipient from the Greater Bay Area. Other recipients were senior researchers from esteemed universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Zhejiang University. The work Xubin presented at GAITC 2025, ‘Representation Learning with Large Language Models for Recommendation (基於大語言模型的推薦演算法表徵學習)’ [DOI: https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.15950] , received the remarkable achievement of being recognised as the Rank No.1 Most Influential Paper and the Rank No.1 Most-Cited Paper among over 400 publications submitted to the ACM Web Conference, WWW’24.
