Background of ASTRI
The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of Hong Kong in the year 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness in technology-based industries through applied research and has a strong record of collaboration with academic institutions, organisations in the public sector, and the industry.
The HKU-ASTRI Work-Study Programme, introduced in 2023/24, allow students to work in ASTRI as a full-time employee while pursing a part-time PhD programme at HKU.

Programme Features
Students admitted to the work-study programme will:
- be registered as part-time PhD students at HKU
- be guided in their work by faculty members at HKU and supervisor at ASTRI

Admissions
Applicants shall meet the minimum admission requirements of HKU. Prospective students will be assessed through a joint selection process and shall be recruited by HKU and ASTRI. Please click here for the admission requirements at HKU; and here for the requirements of ASTRI.
Interested applicants are required to submit an online application to HKU. Applications are invited all year round.

Fees
Students are required to pay the composition and other fees as required by HKU during the entire programme. Please click here for further information.
Award of Degree
Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will be conferred a single PhD degree from HKU.
