“The Fellowship is a prestigious programme offered by the University and the Graduate School to help junior academics be better equipped for their careers ahead. It offers a rare opportunity for the selected few to consolidate their strengths, sharpen their toolkit, and work on new ideas.
“An additional year of training at HKU has afforded me the time to develop new research projects and turn ideas into publications, while polishing my dissertation into a publishable form. For example, later this month I am going to give a talk on the horse culture in ancient China. It is a topic I briefly touched on in my dissertation, but I finally got the time to do further research and got to the bottom of it during the first months of my Fellowship.”

“As a three-year PhD student, I decided to dedicate an additional year to my research to elevate it to a high standard and achieve quality publications in top journals and conferences worldwide. I recognised that the DYF would offer a fantastic and flexible opportunity to invest more time into my research, allowing me to accumulate additional training and research experience before graduation.
“I am currently in the process of publishing a few journal articles and research papers in top journals and conferences, with three already accepted and the other article and the research paper under review. Secondly, this experience aligns perfectly with my aspirations of securing a postdoctoral position. I am currently working on a postdoctoral proposal and actively pursuing opportunities in my research area. The additional year allows me to strengthen my research profile, expand my network, and enhance my chances of securing a desirable academic position.”
