Welcome to HKU! We are thrilled to have you join us this Summer as we begin the journey of research and enlightenment. In addition to working with an eminent professor on a research project, we have prepared a series of academic seminars, workshops and extra-curricular activities throughout the 10-week programme.

Reporting Arrangements and Attendance

All participants are expected to work with their mentor(s) at the University of Hong Kong in person from Week 3 to Week 10 (June 15, 2026 to August 7, 2026). 

Participants should report to their mentor(s) in person on or before Week 3, i.e., June 15, 2026.  Please contact your mentor(s) as soon as possible, and no later than two weeks before your arrival, and ask for the reporting time and office or laboratory address.

Only under exceptional circumstances, the Graduate School will allow participants join the programme in person later than June 15, 2026.  Under such circumstances, the participants concerned should report to your mentor(s) on or before the extended date approved by the Graduate School. Participants who arrive later than June 15, 2026 without prior approval will not be allowed to join the programme.  

Participants are expected to work with their mentor(s) full-time in person from Week 3 to Week 10, typically from Monday to Friday except public holidays.  Participants with unsatisfactory attendance will affect the overall assessment and completion of the programme.

Presentation and Transferable Skills Retreat Grouping Arrangements
University Accommodation

For students who have booked their accommodation via the Graduate School, please find below for more details:

Our participants will be staying at New College in the Jockey Club Student Village III (9 Lung Wah Street, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong). All rooms are randomly assigned by the University Residential College based on room vacancy. Please stay at your assigned room and no room change/ swapping is allowed.

Residential floors are arranged on a single gender basis. Communal bathrooms and toilets, network point, WIFI, hot and cold water will be available. Each person will be provided with a bed, a pillow, a bedsheet, a blanket, a desk, a chair and a wardrobe. Air conditioning and linen will be provided but you have to prepare your towels and toiletries for personal hygiene reason.

All residents MUST complete your check-in process at the Graduate School Office during our office hours:

Office hours: Monday – Friday: 9am – 12:30pm; 2pm – 5:30pm (Saturday, Sunday, University and Public Holiday: Closed)

You will know the exact floor and room that you will be staying at when you collect your room key and smart card at the Graduate School office. Please be reminded to always bring your room key and smart card with you. If you require door unlocking service from the College Security Team, you will need to pay HK$20* service charge in cash on the spot.

The earliest time you can access to your room is at 3:00pm on your arrival date and the check-out time is by 10:00am on your departure date.

Access to the University Libraries

For participants who would like to make use of the library resources, please fill in the application form, and upload a passport size photo to the OneDrive link provided in the said form.  Applications will be accepted until May 22, 2026. 

Access to the University Fitness Centres

Participants can access the CSE Sports facilities (Note 1) by presenting their Library Borrower’s Card to the receptionists for admittance. Please observe the following terms and conditions:

 1. Participants are required to pay a guest fee of $30 per visit / per 1-hour or 1.5-hour activity session, as appropriate.

 2. Guest fees can be paid at the reception counter via the following methods: Octopus, Credit Card (VISA, MasterCard), UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay. Cash is no longer accepted.

 3. Use of the CSE facilities is subject to availability and the CSE rules and regulations, which can be found on the official CSE website.

 4. All fitness centres are only open to users aged 16 and above. Due to space constraints, fitness centre users are required to make a prior registration if they wish to use the facilities during peak hours. The registration can be completed via this link, which includes related arrangement details.

 5. Fitness centres will be closed during certain periods for cleaning and disinfection. For more details, please visit this link.

 6. Participants are not permitted to:

     i) bring guests to use the sports facilities;

     ii) use the CSE car parks;

     iii) make advance bookings of sports facilities.

 7. Details about the CSE facilities, opening hours, early closures, etc., can be found on the official CSE website.

Note 1:

Accessible facilities include the Stanley Ho Sports Centre, Henry Fok Swimming Pool, Multi-Purpose Room at Suen Chi Sun Hall, and the fitness centres (CSE-Active on Centennial Campus, HKU B-Active next to MTR HKU station exit B1, and Stanley Ho Sports Centre).

Bad Weather Arrangements

Please refer to the University’s guidelines on bad weather arrangements under the following circumstances:

  • when Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is in force;
  • when the Hong Kong Observatory announces that Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 will be issued within two hours;
  • when “extreme conditions” after a super typhoon are in force, as announced by the Government before the Hong Kong Observatory lowers Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 to No. 3; or
  • when the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is in force.

These bad weather arrangements apply to all SRP seminars, workshops, and events organised by the Graduate School and other Faculties, Schools, or Institutes, except for presentations.

Scholarship and Financial Support

Scholarship for participants

A scholarship of HK$10,000 will be awarded to each participant of the Programme upon successful completion of the Programme.  

Financial support 

Financial support of airfare up to HK$5,000, and university accommodation up to HK$5,000 will be provided, on a reimbursement basis, to participants who have satisfactorily completed the programme. 

Please note that the Graduate School will only sponsor a round-trip transportation ticket in economy class, capped at HK$5,000, for our participants to travel to Hong Kong from the country/city where the participant is residing in. We only allow participants to take multiple rides to Hong Kong if participants can prove the necessity of travelling to multiple cities/ points before arriving Hong Kong, for example, travelling from the country that your university is located at to your hometown for entry permit application, or, one single travelling route to Hong Kong with multiple transfer rides. Multiple rides due to personal reasons are not supported. The Graduate School reserves the right to decline the application for reimbursement without proper justifications.
