Dear participants,

We are thrilled to have you on board, and we look forward to meeting with you all over the coming weeks!

The HKU Summer Research Programme is designed to provide you with a unique research experience, and we would like to provide you with something more than that. We have organized two networking activities exclusively for SRP participants to help you get to know your fellow researchers and the local Hong Kong community.  These activities are a great opportunity for you to connect with other participants, learn more about the local culture, and to meet with our Professors in order to expand your professional network. We strongly encourage you to participate in these activities, as they will help you make the most of your time here and contribute to a more enriching and rewarding experience.

Please find below the information about our networking activities:

  1. Tram Party
    Date: July 4, 2023 (Tuesday)
    Time: 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Hong Kong’s tram system is one of the earliest form of public transport since 1904.  In addition to being used by local people, the system is also popular with tourists, and is one of the most environmental friendly ways of travelling in the city.  Participants will be boarded on one of the few vintage design trams with open-air balcony where you can enjoy the panoramic view during the tram tour.  The tram tour will depart from and end at the Whitty Street Tram Depot.  The whole tour is around 2.5 hours with light refreshment.
  2. Seafood Dinner at Lamma Island
    Date: 4 August, 2023 (Friday)
    Time: 5:15pm – 9pm

Lamma Island is the third largest island in Hong Kong with an area of 13.55 sq. km.  It is one of the most popular scenic spots in Hong Kong, famous for its fresh seafood and natural scenery.  Participants will take a ferry from the Central Pier to the Lamma Island, and have dinner in one of the authentic local seafood restaurants.  The boat ride is about 30 minutes one way.

The above events are free of charge! The logistic arrangements will be announced later. To help us plan these activities, we kindly ask you to indicate your availability by completing the form on or before June 9, 2023 (Friday).  Late reply will not be accepted.

Just a gentle reminder that all participants should check the Participant Page of the Summer Research Programme regularly for the latest programme and updates. The first face-to-face event of the Summer Research Programme will be the Orientation and Opening Ceremony scheduled for June 19, 2023 at 9:30am to 11:30am. Participants who have obtained prior approval to arrive Hong Kong later than June 19, 2023 are required to attend via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to the participants concerned around one week before the event.  Participants will be invited to join the SRP WhatsApp group during our Orientation and Opening Ceremony.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
