Mandatory Training on Teaching Skills for Research Postgraduate Students
All research postgraduate (RPg) students who are assigned to undertake teaching and/or assessment duties by Faculties/Departments/other units are required to complete a 24-hour training course
“Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education” offered by the Centre for the Enhancement of
Teaching and Learning (CETL) prior to their taking up of the duties. The policy was approved by the Teaching and Learning Quality Committee and the Policy Board of Postgraduate Education in 2010-11 to ensure that RPg students engaging in teaching related duties possess the level of competence and skills required.
Details of the Certificate Course are available on the CETL website at http://www.cetl.hku.hk/certificate-courses. CETL will update the information on class schedules and online course registration periods for Semesters 1 and 2 in August and December of the year respectively.
RPg students who are able to provide documentary evidence of having obtained equivalent teaching skills training may apply for exemption, on the recommendation of their supervisors, by writing directly to the Director of CETL or his/her designate.
