To ensure that research postgraduate (RPg) students possess the level of competence and skills required for undertaking the teaching and/or assessment duties assigned by the Faculty/School/Department, a policy was approved by the Teaching and Learning Quality Committee and the former Policy Board of Postgraduate Education that it is mandatory for students concerned to complete the 24-hour training course Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education offered by the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TALIC) prior to taking up the duties.
Application Procedures
Online course registration is generally scheduled in August for Semester 1 courses and in December for Semester 2 courses. Please refer to the website of TALIC for details of the course and registration arrangements.
Course Exemption
Students who are able to provide documentary evidence of having obtained equivalent teaching skills training may apply directly, on the recommendation of their supervisors, to TALIC, for exemption.
